BLOOMING SOLANIUM MURITANICUM

Look what is blooming! the Solanium Muritanicum that Dad planted on the park way... no, I did not know the name but in the spring of '09, Oscar Clark, Dennis Kuescerra and Christopher Stevenson came to help me identify some plants on the Farm and this was one of them...also it was told that day that thes Solanium is from the Island of Maresius (sp?) on the African Coast...

Speaking of the Team... here they are! Dennis to the left, Christopher in the center and Oscar to the right. This picture was taken early July 2009 in the front meadow on the Farm....Well, I just got off the phone with Oscar and he has the proper book to look up the correct spelling of the African Coast where the Solanium Muritanicum hails from! he is in the middle of processing persimmons just now but will call back with the info, thanks Oscar! Tomorrow is the Rare Fruit Growers meeting and it is a scion exchange, oh boy, does the Farm have wood!

The picture here in his blue shirt is in the chicken yard on the Farm Dec.27, 2008,  2 days before his 81 Birthday!  He is telling us somthing but i can't remember what it was 'cept i'm pretty sure it was about something growing ..

now this one is from early 90's best i can guess from the plants and lack of an awning he now has in front of the back house....bet he is off to the swap meet with his shopping basket.... all the plants looks good there....

Farm visitor

1/2/2010   Just had a visit to the Farm from Bill Keeler, a plant friend of Dad's ...he missed the fig Tasting Dad held in the summer of 2008 and wanted to get some cuttings from his NSA #1 fig Dad's favorite....Had a nice visit and a short tour of the property....he helped me get closer to identifying a lovely large aloe plant....

Thanks Bill!

Oscar & Helga visit the farm to see what's been going on here...

12/27/09 here we are....Oscar Clarke, Helga and GP (one of the Radich sister's) botanizing on the Farm...we had a wonderful time and found some interesting plants That Oscar & Helga collected cuttings and seeds to introduce to the UCRiverside Botanical Gardens...a Tulsi Tree Basil also called Holy Basil that was started on the Farm from seeds that GP brought back from India in the late 70's, and a toothache plant (with its lovely yellow and red flowers) which we are still trying to get it's botanical name...any one know it?

12/23/09 a lovely Saliva bloom spike.....

12/23/09 and then there is GP working on our green gifts for Christmas and can you see the Yucca bloom spike to the right of the pic?  That was our Christmas tree for the 2nd year!  Last year for Christmas Dad was with me in Northern Calif the week before Christmas and GP was on the Farm looking after everything....she had decorated so nice for the holadays and when Dad and I arrived home Christmas eve after dark we saw twinkling lights everywhere and on this tree like structure...it was a Yucca spike!  Dad loved it!  He was always so thrilled with the idea of using found objects for art et all.....
